Welcome

Welcome to Glenrose Friesians

Born in Friesland, a Province in the Netherlands we immigrated to New Zealand 20 years ago with the dream of one day importing Friesian Horses into New Zealand.

We have a passion for The Friesian Horse and for us it’s a "connection" with home.

(Jolmer and Vickie at Tieklcey Park July 2010)

The Friesian breed

  • has become popular all over the world.
  • are succesfully  competing at top level dressage all over the world
  • is a very intelligent, willing, and gentle horse who carries itself with elegance.
  • has trainability, movement, presence and appearance which makes them ideal for Dressage.
  • is eye-catching as a Carriage horse and is used for general Riding and Showing.
With their black coats, long thick mane and tails they have featured in many movies.

There are two conformation types.
The Classical Friesian and the Modern Sport Horse type is finer-boned
Both types are common, though the modern type is currently much more popular because of the many uses and suitability for Sport.  Jolmer is a typical Modern type Friesian, very suitable for Sport. He has been in training for dresage and is progressing very well.

We cant thank Vickie enough for  the many hours she spends training Jolmer. These two have a unigue relationship.  It gives us goosebumps every time we see the reaction people have when Jolmer and Vickie go out in public.                                                                                                                                            Quote by  Bill Noble:   "combination of this horse and rider have got what it takes to go all the way"
